Thanks, Madeleine. I've seen "Decent Exposures" before but I avoid velcro (sensitive skin that tears easily) so not a solution for me. Every month or so I wind up googling around to see if I can find something new and it seems the new trend is to have no between-boob support when the flap is down (which makes trying to get boob back in after feeding a REAL hassle, regardless of the clasp). I have one or two like that for special ocassions but won't wear them for more than a few hours (in other words, for more than one feeding) if there's any way to avoid it (including full wardrobe change between a wedding and reception!).

Funny thing, I have a chain mail nursing bra (custom made by a friend to my design specifications) that is more functional and fits better than ANY nursing bra that I've ever purchased. I wear an elastic neckline dress under it to keep chain mail away from sensitive area. THAT I can un/re-hook one handed!

Amen! I have a horrible time with nursing bras also--I was measured at 36G in the last trimester.
I ordered EVERY nursing bra and had to send them all back. I wore the Medela comfort bra (basically a large Ace bandage!) from the last month of pregnancy through the first month postpartum because every other bra had the problems you so perfectly describe.

I have had luck with Decent Exposures "unbra." I had them sew the seams inside out so the sewn-under edges on the (nice and wide!) straps don't dig in to my shoulders due to the weight of my breasts. They make Velcro flaps, which are loud but so much easier than hooks! Plus they come in cotton, and lined cotton for extra support.

The only downside is I do end up with a uni-boob, but I'll take that over comfort any day. Hopefully someday a brilliant, caring bra designer will solve all of our problems!
